This policy explains what data IELTSPrep (“the app”, “we”) collects, why, and your choices. We collect only what the app needs to function and to give you AI feedback on your IELTS practice.
1. Information we collect
Account details — your email address, a password (stored only as a salted Argon2id hash; we never store it in plain text), and the display name you choose.
Study profile — your target band score and target exam date, if you set them.
Your practice content — the essays you write (Writing), the spoken-answer transcripts you submit (Speaking), and the answers you select in Reading and Listening tests, together with the band scores and AI feedback generated for them.
Usage counts — a per-day count of practice activities, used to apply free-tier limits.
Subscription status — whether you hold an active IELTSPrep Pro subscription. Purchases are processed by Apple; we receive your entitlement status (active / expired), not your payment-card details.
Technical logs — standard server logs such as request times and IP address, kept briefly for security and reliability.
2. Microphone & speech
Speaking practice uses your device’s microphone to transcribe what you say into text on your device. Only the resulting text transcript is sent to our server for evaluation — we do not upload or store raw audio recordings.
3. How we use your data
To create and secure your account and sign you in.
To generate AI band-score feedback on your Writing and Speaking, and to auto-grade your Reading and Listening tests.
To show your progress and history across the four skills.
To enforce free-tier limits and unlock features for Pro subscribers.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Third parties we share with
Anthropic (Claude) — the text of your essays and speaking transcripts is sent to Anthropic’s API to generate feedback. Per Anthropic’s API terms, this content is not used to train their models.
Apple & RevenueCat — used to process and validate subscription purchases and tell us your entitlement status.
Hosting — our servers and database are operated on Hetzner infrastructure in the EU (Germany/Finland).
5. Data retention & deletion
We keep your account and practice data until you delete it. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Account → Danger zone → Delete Account in the app. Deleting your account immediately and irreversibly erases your profile and all of your submissions, attempts, scores and usage history from our database.
6. Security
Passwords are hashed with Argon2id. Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access to the database is restricted to the application.
7. Children
IELTSPrep is intended for IELTS test-takers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
8. Your rights
You can access and update your profile in the app, and delete your account and all associated data at any time. For any privacy request, contact us at the address below.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the effective date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
